“Trees that grow tall have deep roots.” - Henri Nouwen
For almost 40 years, Stewpot’s Summer Camp has been a safe place for some of our city’s most at-risk youth to grow up. It’s here, amidst the laughter, learning, and shared experiences, that they plant roots - roots that grow deep and strong in the rich soil of our loving community. Over the years, we’ve seen firsthand how these roots enable them to stand tall in life’s storms…and accomplish some remarkable things.
Through cooking and art classes that spark creativity, science experiments that ignite wonder, and field trips that unleash curiosity, Stewpot Summer Camp offers a substantive alternative to a summer of learning loss. Our focus on play offers an escape from the chaos and stress our campers face regularly.
At Stewpot Summer Camp, our kids and teens play games, visit area playgrounds and museums, enjoy shaved ice and popsicles, and explore our metro area. Alongside the fun, we weave in learning: writing workshops, STEM activities, summer reading, and one-on-one tutoring (as needed). We are committed to making every summer both memorable and meaningful.
Because we rely heavily on volunteers and donations, Stewpot can offer seven weeks of summer camp for just $400 per camper.
All of our campers come from families who cannot afford to pay for summer camp but need it desperately. The total cost of camp this year is $70,000, which covers staff, materials, food, field trips, games, books, and art supplies. At the rate of $400 per camper, we could accommodate up to 175 campers!
Your gift to Stewpot Summer Camp can change a child’s summer - and perhaps even their future. By sponsoring a camper, or offering partial support, you are giving our kids and teens a chance to establish the kind of roots that will help them to grow tall.
In other words, your sponsorship helps ensure that our Stewpot campers have:
- a loving and safe place for the summer where they are seen and valued;
- the enrichments of play, friendship, and belonging;
- exposure to a world that is larger than they currently know; and,
- the support of a community that encourages and celebrates their growth.
In short, the support that any child needs and every child needs.
